FOX23 spoke to Governor Mary Fallin about the bombing at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

As the 18th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing approaches, Fallin says she wants to assure everyone that they are safe in Oklahoma.

“Right now, we know that we don’t have any threats in our state, but we should keep our eyes open and report anything that we might see that might be unusual.” Fallin said.

She also offered support to victims in Boston, “Certainly our hearts and prayers go out to all the families that have lost loved ones, and the injured, and the state itself."

Governor Fallin says she plans to stay in touch with Homeland security officials to stay up to date on the situation in Boston.

The Oklahoma Counter-terrorism caucus released a statement about the Boston Marathon bombing.

Chairman of the Counter-Terrorism Caucus, state Rep. John Bennett, R-Sallisaw, released the following statement:

“Oklahomans know all too well the pain and terror a person can feel when their hometown is struck with a bombing. The 18th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing is only three days away. The thoughts and prayers of Oklahomans are with those impacted by the tragedy in Boston and our hearts weep what pain has been inflicted upon that great city. “

The Counter-Terrorism Caucus was started with the intention of keeping Oklahomans as safe as possible. Just last week, we hosted former Under Secretary of Defense Frank Gaffney to speak to our caucus. He served in that role in the Reagan administration and shared with us about the threat of terrorism in Oklahoma and across the nation.

“With the scars of the OKC bombing forever a part of Oklahoma, we wanted to do all we could possibly do to ensure the safety and security of our citizens. What happened in Boston serves as a reminder that we must keep vigilant and focused on preventing acts of terror like this from taking place.

“In Oklahoma, we’re blessed with an over-abundance of great and capable first responders. They do so much to keep us safe and sound. But we as citizens can help them and ourselves. We must stay aware of our surroundings and take note of what is around us. If you notice anything suspicious, don’t take any chances – contact law enforcement officials immediately.”
