There were no spinning stacks of hot wax at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma luncheon on Monday, but Chubby Checker and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin did tear the house down.
The 1960s music idol made an unannounced appearance at the luncheon and spun the governor through several bars of his hit "The Twist" while the 300 people in attendance cheered.
Fallin said afterward that she knew what was coming but her staff did not.
Checker spoke for about three minutes, telling the audience that "Oklahoma is a beautiful state. I thought a lot about Will Rogers as a kid, and buffaloes and Indians and things."
