Oklahoma is sending a 10-person operations support team to the state of New York to assist in recovery efforts from the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, Gov. Mary Fallin said Tuesday.

The team is made up of employees from the state Emergency Management and Public Safety departments and the city of Tulsa.

The Oklahoma delegation will help support the state of New York's emergency operations center. The team is deploying in response to an Emergency Management Assistance Compact request from New York's state emergency management office.

Oklahoma emergency management officials are monitoring additional requests from affected areas, the governor's office said.

“Oklahoma and New York have a special bond, as first responders from both states worked together cooperatively in the wakes of the Murrah Building bombing and the 9/11 attacks,” Fallin said. “It is in that spirit of cooperation that we are once again offering a helping hand.”

Other Oklahoma organizations responding to the affected areas include volunteers from the American Red Cross and the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, according to the governor's office
